2022 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta

Having grown up around Charleston, the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta was a big part of my childhood. Every year for a week or two Kanawha Boulevard was shut down and sternwheelers from all over the eastern United States would travel down the mighty Kanawha to enjoy a ruckus and bawdy outdoor party. When I was young, there were legends of some of the wild night. Eventually in became more and more tame until it coasted to a halt in 2009.

Now in 2022 it has returned. Well managed and well execute, everyone involved deserves credit for pulling off an amazing event.

There were lots of fun and family friendly events throughout the day, from carnival rides to bouncy castles. There were even crafting events and competitions. But that party was still there. In the evening, the masses rolled in to enjoy live concerts and some adult beverages.

There was something for everyone at the 2022 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta. A real crown jewel for the Mountains State’s. Well done.
