ACE Trail Maintenance Weekend

At the tail-end of April, the family and I traveled to ACE Adventure Resort for the Trail Maintenance Weekend. In exchange for a little time and a strong back, we were about to say free in one of their Cozy Cabins for two nights. So I spent Saturday and Sunday helping to clean up the trails and the family got to enjoy the resort!

Located on 1,500 wooded acres next to the New River Gorge National River ACE Adventure Resort offers white water rafting trips on the New and Gauley rivers and other outdoor adventures like zip line tours, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and a waterpark.

We arrived on Friday, where we just settled in, watched and movie and enjoyed the hot tub. Saturday I worked with two other couples and ACE staff, Levi and Dylan, to open up a new trail and pick up trash. And Sunday we worked on uncovering ruins from the old town that is now an overnight campground.

It was a real adventure and a lot of fun! The weather was a little cool and there was some rain, but we pushed through. Dylan is a history major working on his PhD, so he was always interesting to talk to, and Levi was always good for a laugh. Everyone put in two solid days’ work and I can’t wait to show everyone the path we made when we go back later this Spring!
