Counting down Mountaineer Media’s best moments from 2021

It’s been a great year for West Virginia and Mountaineer Media.

What else can we say? 2021 was an unquestionably record-breaking year for the team at Mountaineer Media, and we can't thank YOU enough for supporting us.

Whether it was liking a video, picture, buying merch, listening to a podcast, or even clicking a link to a blog, we're incredibly thankful for the backing we've got from the people of West Virginia and beyond.

One of the things we're most proud of, though, is the success of the Mountaineer Media Podcast. Since the turn of the year, we've had 38 inspiring guests who're working their butts off to make the Mountain State a better place.

Although it's nearly impossible to count them all, we've picked out five of our favorite moments over the last year. Whether it was funny or motivational, these moments were special.

Number 5: Philip Bowen crushes Country Roads

Phil Bowen has seen immense love on sites like Reddit and TikTok for his extraordinary skill on the violin (fiddle or whatever you want to call it). So when he joined the MMP back on May 6th, he gave Cooper and C.J. a taste of his rendition of Country Roads that'd bring a tear to John Denver's eye.

Number 4: C.J. practices his turkey call

Brody Prudnick, the owner of Ray's Rub (a great all-purpose seasoning you can buy here), is an avid hunter and often spends Fall mornings in the woods. When he hit the MMP airwaves back on May 27th, he gave the boys a little lesson on how to attract Turkeys. We'll just say the boys (mainly C.J.) have some work to do.

Number 3: Dr. Clay Marsh loves The Beatles

During the peak of the pandemic in 2020, the entire state of West Virginia turned to the COVID-czar, Dr. Clay Marsh, for the most up-to-date and best information about fighting COVID-19. But at times, he didn't always know what to do or if he was doing enough. So when he jumped on the pod back on January 25th, he described a moment where The Beatles song, "Let It Be," provided clarity during a specifically rough time.

Number 2: Tony Caridi isn't allowed in the house

We all know the Mountaineers' current voice, Tony Caridi, is a man full of personality. He didn't shy away from showing his character back on September 9th. When Cooper opened up about speaking with the well-known personality, he shared a childhood story that caught Caridi's attention.

Number 1: Brad Smith reminds us what it means to be a West Virginian

Former CEO of Intuit and President of Marshall University, Brad Smith, is a man filled with wisdom. You've probably heard, he's helping fund the Ascend West Virginia program, which is paying people from out of state to live in the Mountain State and work remotely. During his interview on June 3rd, he reminded us the boys about why being from West Virginia is nothing to joke about, inspiring us all to appreciate being from the beautiful Mountains.
