Empowering WV's foster youth: three ways to make a difference now

THE FOSTER CARE crisis isn't limited to West Virginia; it's a nationwide issue. However, numerous organizations are actively addressing this challenge, positively impacting the lives of children navigating the foster care system.

A dynamic organization in West Virginia, Libera, is working tirelessly to empower children with the confidence they need to succeed, especially those within the foster care system.

(For those wondering, Libera is the feminine version of Liberi, stemming from the state motto Montani Semper Liberi. Very cool!)

Libera's efforts extend beyond the state's borders, offering opportunities for people nationwide to contribute and help the foster care challenges West Virginia faces.

Here are three ways you can help address foster care challenges in West Virginia by partnering with Libera:

  1. Become a Libera Listener

One of the most impactful ways to make a difference is by becoming a "Listener." Libera Listeners are dedicated volunteer community members who mentor transitional foster youth in our program.

Libera provides comprehensive training and continuous support to their Listeners and encourages them to meet with their mentees weekly.

Libera is also looking for career mentors and guest speakers who can share their professional expertise with youth.

If you have valuable skills or knowledge to share, please reach out.

  2. Buy, donate or sponsor a Lila Bear Activity Box

You can easily support the foster youth in the Libera program by engaging with Libera's social enterprise.

When you purchase or sponsor our Lila Bear activity boxes, you're funding their mentorship program for transitional foster youth and providing employment opportunities for young women involved in their mentorship program.

Overall, these boxes are incredibly awesome and worth checking out!

  3. Make a Tax-Deductible Donation

Like any nonprofit organization, Libera greatly appreciates tax-deductible donations made online or by mailing a check. Your contributions enable them to continue offering life-changing support to foster youth.

Gifts need not be limited to monetary contributions; Libera recently received a generous car donation, greatly benefiting one of their transitional foster youth.

Transportation is a significant challenge for many youth they assist, so any support in this area is incredibly valuable.

By engaging with Libera through these three avenues, you can play a vital role in improving the lives of foster youth in West Virginia and beyond.

This is just one of Libera's many programs to help support women and teens across West Virginia. Please explore their website for more information.

Your involvement and support make a meaningful difference in their mission to create brighter futures for these young individuals.
