Hike #8: Romie’s Run in Beech Fork State Park

Hike #8 took me just outside of Huntington, WV to a trail called Romie’s Run in Beech Fork State Park. Beech Fork is a local gem, and a personal favorite of mine. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re running short on time, but are craving the fresh air that only a couple of miles on trail can give you. The park has several hiking trails that vary in length, Romie’s Run being the first of many that I plan on including in this challenge.

Hike #8 Details:

1.  Beech Fork State Park

2.   Romie’s Run

3.  38.30050890315174, -82.41361409481419

4.   3.1 miles

5.   1 hour

At approximately 3.1 miles long, with only 360 feet of elevation gain, this trail is good for a quick day hike. All you need is some water and good shoes and you’re set to get some fresh air!

The trail itself starts off at the Beech Fork Marina, and is well marked throughout its entirety. It starts as a sort of lake trail but eventually ascends away from the lake, weaving through small valleys, and across a couple of creeks.Though mostly flat, there are a couple of inclines that will get your heart rate up and make you glad that you got outside. But, it is generally a very easy hike.

The park itself boasts an abundance of camping and picnicking options. It is dotted with great spots to set up a hammock and read a book if you’re looking for a slice of solitude.

After visiting Beech Fork State Park, be sure to check out some of my favorite small businesses in Huntington like Cicada Books! Grindstone Coffeeology! and Full Circle Gifts and Goods!
