Most of us only engage with Goodwill when donating clothes or shopping at the thrift store, but the non-profit's contribution to society goes beyond just those services. Did you know Goodwill helped over 230,000 people find a job in 2022? Goodwill is vital to many communities because it offers job training and placement services to those who need them the most. The organization helps people who face challenges, such as veterans, individuals with disabilities, or those recovering from drug addiction, get back on their feet and find work. Kassia Killy is Goodwill's Vice President of Operations for the Kanawha Valley. She says many people who go through the Goodwill system earn a fair wage because of Goodwill's help. "We want to end poverty, and to do that, we have to help people get to a living wage," Lilly said on the most recent episode of the Mountaineer Media Podcast. "Last month, our Goodwill placed 40 employees in the community who are earning an average rate of over $15 an hour, which is huge. The average hours for those people was 37.5 hours. That's really above the living wage rate here in Kanawha County."
