YEAR IN REVIEW

There’s no question about it — this has been our biggest year yet, and it’s all thanks to you!

Mountaineer Media saw exponential growth in 2022, and it wouldn’t have been possible without your continued support.

So, in honor of a great year, let’s take a look back at some of our milestones in 2022.

WE HAD AMAZING GUESTS

We often joke that we’ll never run out of guests because there are so many incredible West Virginians all over the world who deserve a spotlight.

This year, we had 40 out-of-this-world interviews on the podcast. From brewmasters, tailors and professional gamers to authors, scientists and musicians, there’s a takeaway from every episode.

WE LEARNED A LOT AFTER 100 INTERVIEWS

When we started Mountaineer Media, we made it our mission to inspire and educate the state’s people through authentic conversations.

Here's the one thing we discovered in everyone’s success story: Lean into your West Virginia values, and you’ll exceed all expectations.

What some people mistake for ‘West Virginia naivety’ is actually our superpower, and it’ll take you very, very far. Don’t forget it.

WE MET MOUNTAINEERS

One of our biggest goals in 2022 was to expand into the live-event space, which is what we did!

We broadcasted live from a West Virginia Black Bears game on West Virginia Day.
We hosted over 50 West Virginians to a fun, networking night at Fife Street Brewing in Charleston.
We planned the Almost Heaven Classic for Summer 2023 at Canaan Valley Resort.

We love telling stories on the podcast, but bringing people together in-person is just as (if not more) important.

WE CHALLENGED PEOPLE

Part of our core mission is to say the quiet things loud. Sometimes that stirs the pot, ruffles feathers or challenges people’s beliefs, but we think it’s helping move West Virginia forward.

If people aren’t having the hard conversations, there’s no improvement, no progress, no development.

Our platform is a vehicle to have difficult conversations with people, and we plan to continue just that.

Cooper Simmerman explored two topics in particular:

BRAD D. SMITH AGREED TO JOIN THE ALMOST HEAVEN CLASSIC

As the Almost Heaven Classic nears, we plan to reveal some of the Wild & Wonderful West Virginians attending our flagship gathering, including Marshall University President Brad D. Smith who will be part of the AHC's networking panel discussion.

“I’m honored to be a part of the Almost Heaven Classic,” Pres. Smith said. “Anything that elevates the opportunities and potential of this incredible state, I, and my fellow West Virginians, support. I’m looking forward to connecting with all who attend and having some important conversations to continue to propel West Virginia forward.”

We also confirmed Natalie Tennant (former WV Secretary of State) will be in attendance, as well!

WE CURATED ‘THE GRAVEDIGGERS OF MOUNDSVILLE’

One of our mid-season projects included what we call, “an auditory experience exploring the history of Moundsville, West Virginia.”

Sounds good, right?

The Gravediggers of Moundsville was a fun project we jointly collaborated on, digging into the dark past of the Mound and the family who founded the area.

The original piece was written by Mason Jack.
