We interviewed 100 influential West Virginians & this is our biggest takeaway

When we started the Mountaineer Media Podcast, we made it our mission to encourage our state and its people through authentic conversations.

In our two years, we've spoken with 100 local and world-renowned engineers, scientists, politicians, business leaders, musicians, journalists, pastors and coaches.

Here's the one thing that remains consistent in everyone's success story:

Lean into your West Virginia values, and you’ll exceed all expectations.

Time-and-time again we’ve introduced our listeners to people who are working on the world stage, in part, because they embraced the proud and rich heritage of the Mountain State.

In general we’re taught to be humble, help others, work hard, remain curious, fight when there's injustice, don't expect handouts, take what the planet gives us, and in return, take care of the beautiful planet we've been given.

Unfortunately, we’re often viewed as naive or unlucky being from West Virginia.

Hopefully, through our conversations, we’ve eliminated stigma and inspired people to believe this simply isn’t true.

What some people mistake for naivety or unluckiness is actually our unique gift, and it’ll take you very, very far.

It’s an honor to be from West Virginia. We hope you wear that with pride, as we do.

Let us know what other West Virginian qualities you lean into. Let us know here.
